Dubai Loop $544M Project Advances as Tunnel Boring Machine Assembly Begins
Dubai’s $544m Dubai Loop underground transport project is moving into its next phase, with assembly of the tunnel boring machine and production of concrete tunnel lining segments now underway.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, reviewed the latest progress during a meeting with Steve Davis, President of US-based tunnelling and infrastructure company The Boring Company.
The meeting covered progress on the passenger transport tunnel project and cooperation between Dubai and The Boring Company. The two sides signed an agreement for the project in February, with preliminary construction and engineering activities continuing since then.
The Dubai Loop will use an underground tunnel network and electric vehicles to connect key destinations, with a focus on first and last-mile transport in densely populated areas.
Current work includes assembling the tunnel boring machine and casting concrete segments that will form the tunnel lining. The activities mark further progress in the delivery of the planned network, which Dubai says will improve connectivity between major destinations and support mobility in high-density areas.
