Dubai Loop Advances as Tunnelling Work Moves into Next Phase
Dubai Loop has entered its next phase, with technical and engineering work advancing on the underground passenger transport project being developed with The Boring Company.
Work currently includes assembly of the tunnel boring machine and casting of concrete tunnel lining segments, marking further progress since Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority signed an implementation agreement with The Boring Company in February.
The first phase will cover a 6.4km route with four stations connecting the Dubai International Financial Centre and Dubai Mall. The wider planned network will extend up to 22.5km and include 19 stations linking Dubai World Trade Centre, the financial district and Business Bay.
The underground system will use electric vehicles and is designed to provide faster connections between key destinations while supporting first and last-mile mobility across the emirate.
The pilot route is expected to serve around 13,000 passengers a day, while the full network is projected to have capacity for approximately 30,000 passengers daily.
The first phase has an estimated cost of around AED565 million, while the full route is estimated at approximately AED2 billion.
Dubai Loop is part of the emirate’s wider push to develop technology-driven transport infrastructure and expand mobility solutions in high-density areas.
