Mercedes-AMG Teases New High-Riding Electric Performance Model

Mercedes-AMG is preparing to expand its flagship electric performance range with a new high-riding model positioned alongside the all-electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. The Affalterbach-based performance division has released a teaser showing the vehicle concealed beneath a dark cover, offering the first clear indication of its crossover-oriented proportions.

The upcoming model represents an important expansion of Mercedes-AMG’s electric strategy. While the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe adopts a low-slung performance profile, the new vehicle takes that formula into the luxury crossover segment with a taller body and more practical hatchback silhouette.

AMG’s Electric Performance Formula Goes Higher

The teaser reveals several design cues connecting the concealed model to the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe EV. Its illuminated taillights, distinctive LED lighting signature, and centrally positioned Mercedes three-pointed star suggest a close visual relationship between the two vehicles.

However, the silhouette points to a substantially different body style. The new model sits higher than the GT 4-Door Coupe and adopts a more pronounced rear hatch, combining the visual presence of an SUV with the proportions expected from a high-performance fastback.

Mercedes-AMG’s teaser describes the vehicle as being “born in Affalterbach and built to challenge existing expectations.” The positioning reflects the company’s effort to extend its performance identity into segments where luxury SUVs and crossovers continue to command strong consumer interest.

The model will also allow Mercedes-AMG to broaden the application of its dedicated electric performance technology. Rather than creating an entirely separate technical direction, a crossover derivative can potentially share key components and engineering developments with the wider AMG electric vehicle family.

Powerful Electric Hardware Expected Underneath

Mercedes-AMG has not yet confirmed the new model’s final specifications. However, expectations point toward an electric architecture closely related to the technology underpinning the current AMG GT range.

A 106-kWh battery is expected to form the core of the vehicle’s electrical system. If the new crossover adopts powertrain technology comparable to that of the existing GT lineup, performance could reach the same extraordinary level as Mercedes-AMG’s current electric models.

The range-topping AMG GT 63 produces up to 1,150 horsepower, while the AMG GT 55 delivers 805 horsepower. Even the AMG GT 53 develops 536 horsepower, establishing a broad performance hierarchy within the electric GT family.

Mercedes-AMG has yet to confirm which power outputs or drivetrain configurations will be available for the upcoming crossover. Therefore, its final specifications remain subject to the company’s official product announcement.

Mercedes-AMG Targets the Luxury Performance SUV Market

Mercedes-AMG first indicated plans for a dedicated electric performance SUV in December, using similar language about the model’s development in Affalterbach. The latest teaser suggests the programme has now progressed toward its formal reveal.

The move comes as luxury manufacturers increasingly extend high-performance electric technology into crossover and SUV body styles. For Mercedes-AMG, the strategy provides a way to combine its motorsport-inspired performance identity with the elevated driving position and additional practicality associated with high-riding vehicles.

At the same time, the new model could become an important test of how far AMG can extend its electric performance formula beyond traditional sports sedans and coupes. Its combination of high output, battery technology, and crossover proportions places it squarely in one of the most competitive segments of the luxury EV market.

With the teaser now public, Mercedes-AMG appears to be moving closer to revealing the model in full. The final unveiling will establish its official name, specifications, performance figures, and position within the expanding AMG electric lineup.
