Michael Jordan’s 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello Heads to JOOPITER Auction
Michael Jordan’s 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello is returning to the public eye after 24 years away from view. The car, which helped inspire the design of the Air Jordan XIV, will headline JOOPITER and CURATED’s debut collector-car auction.
The Ferrari will be offered alongside Jordan’s Game 3 “Last Dance” NBA Finals jersey. Together, the pieces connect one of basketball’s most recognizable figures with two highly collectible objects from his personal history.
Why Does This Ferrari Matter?
The significance of the Ferrari goes beyond its connection to Jordan. Chassis 108712 was delivered to him in May 1997 and combines a front-engined V12 with a gated manual transmission.
Moreover, the car features a Rosso Barchetta exterior, tan leather interior, and chrome Speedline wheels. These details preserve the specification of a Ferrari from an important period in the brand’s modern history.

The car also has a direct link to sneaker design. Its interior and exterior details inspired Tinker Hatfield while designing the Air Jordan XIV.
For example, the quilted leather cabin influenced elements of the sneaker’s design. Additionally, the Jumpman logo was placed inside a Ferrari-style shield, creating a direct visual connection between Jordan’s automotive and footwear worlds.
What Happened to the Car?
Jordan sold the Ferrari in 2002. After that, the vehicle disappeared from public view for 24 years.
That long absence makes its return particularly notable for collectors. CURATED rediscovered and authenticated the car in 2026, while its history and ownership record provide documentation for the auction.
The sale also marks JOOPITER’s first move into the collector-car market. Therefore, the Ferrari serves as the starting point for a new series of supercar auctions on the platform.

The car will be presented alongside Jordan’s Game 3 “Last Dance” NBA Finals jersey. Both pieces will be publicly displayed at 16 Morton Street – Cart Department in New York City from September 15 to 20, 2026.
Official bidding will run from September 15 through September 30, 2026, via JOOPITER.
For collectors, the auction brings together three distinct areas of cultural value: Ferrari history, Michael Jordan memorabilia, and sneaker design. More importantly, it offers the first public opportunity to acquire chassis 108712 since it left Jordan’s personal collection.
