Mitsubishi Motors Unveils All-New Pajero SUV

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has unveiled the fully redesigned Pajero cross-country SUV at its world premiere, marking the return of the nameplate as a new-generation flagship model. The company said the vehicle represents the next stage of the Mitsubishi Motors brand, combining the model’s established capabilities with a more premium positioning.

Manufactured at Mitsubishi Motors’ production facility in Thailand, the all-new Pajero will launch in Thailand first, followed by Japan and Australia during fiscal 2026. From fiscal 2027, Mitsubishi Motors plans to introduce the SUV across approximately 100 countries and regions, including markets in ASEAN, Latin America, and the Middle East.

First launched in 1982, the Pajero was developed as a cross-country 4WD combining genuine off-road capability and reliability with the comfort and usability of a passenger vehicle. The model gained strong popularity among outdoor enthusiasts and became a key contributor to Japan’s recreational vehicle boom during the 1990s. Across four generations, production exceeded 3.29 million units, while the Pajero developed a loyal customer base in more than 170 countries and regions.

The latest-generation Pajero builds on the product philosophy established by its predecessors, bringing together “Confidence” through off-road capability and reliability, and “Comfort” through occupant convenience and ease of driving. The new model adds “Prestige” as a core characteristic, reflecting the premium quality expected of a flagship vehicle. Mitsubishi Motors said these three attributes underpin a broad evolution of the SUV.

The exterior features bold proportions and strong horizontal lines that give the vehicle a commanding presence, while the interior combines functionality with advanced features and refined craftsmanship. Design elements from previous Pajero generations have also been incorporated throughout the vehicle, linking its heritage to its new flagship positioning.

Inside, the all-new Pajero provides a refined cabin designed to offer comfort for all occupants while retaining dimensions suited to easy manoeuvrability. The SUV features Mitsubishi Motors’ Super-All-Wheel-Control (S-AWC) system, which coordinates acceleration, cornering, and braking to deliver precise, intuitive handling. It also incorporates Super Select 4WD-II (SS4-II), designed to combine strong off-road performance with straightforward everyday operation. Alongside a rigid and durable ladder frame and a suspension system tuned to maintain tyre contact with the road, these technologies are designed to provide confident driving across a wide range of terrain.

Keisuke Kishiura, president and chief operating officer of Mitsubishi Motors, said the company’s Mid- to Long-Term Vision for the 2030s focuses on improving customer satisfaction and corporate value by developing distinctive products and strengthening the brand’s unique characteristics. He described the all-new Pajero as the first model to embody this strategy, adding that the flagship will lead both future Pajero models and the wider Mitsubishi Motors lineup. Kishiura said the new SUV combines greater refinement with the capability required across different driving conditions, with global market launches planned in phases.
