Nissan Transforms Car Grilles into Bespoke Jewellery
Automotive manufacturer Nissan has teamed up with London-based jewellery studio Loud Mouth LDN to develop a collection of custom grillz inspired by the distinctive grilles of Nissan vehicles.
Created by Loud Mouth LDN, the four-piece jewellery collection was commissioned by Nissan’s Nismo division to mark the FIA Formula E World Championship finale, which is being held in London this weekend.
Designed as removable accessories that clip over the teeth, the grillz incorporate recognisable design features from Nissan’s electric and performance cars. The collection takes inspiration from the Formula E GEN3 Evo, Z GT500, R34 Skyline GT-R and R34 Pennzoil.
Nissan enlisted the Peckham-based studio to produce the metal jewellery to bring together the brand’s automotive design heritage and London’s vibrant cultural scene.
For this collection, Loud Mouth LDN took a different approach from its previous commissions, beginning the creative process by studying the “shapes and details of the cars”.
“This collaboration was something completely different for us,” founder of Loud Mouth LDN Reece Garcia said.
“For this project, rather than starting with letters or logos, we looked at the shapes and details of the cars and translated them into something that works as jewellery.”
“Grillz are one of the only pieces of jewellery that are completely built around the individual, giving people a really unique way to express who they are,” Garcia continued.
One design features a silver grill accented with red enamel outlines and a white panel embossed with cherry blossoms, echoing the exterior styling of Nissan’s Formula E GEN3 Evo race car.
Another piece takes cues from Nissan’s Z GT500, combining a red enamel base with black and yellow detailing that reflects the car’s distinctive colour scheme.
The collection’s remaining two designs are inspired by the colourways of the Skyline GT-R R34 and R34 Pennzoil. They feature glossy blue and yellow-toned enamel finishes, respectively.
