Range Rover Electric Brings 542 HP to The Flagship SUV

The Range Rover Electric marks a major shift for the luxury SUV, becoming the first flagship Range Rover to use fully electric propulsion. Built at JLR’s Solihull plant, the new model combines 542 hp, up to 333 miles of EPA-rated range, and the off-road capability expected from the badge.

Rather than turning an existing combustion model into an EV, Range Rover developed the vehicle around a flexible architecture that supports electric, hybrid, and combustion powertrains. The result keeps the familiar Range Rover silhouette while making targeted changes for electric performance.

542 HP, 800-Volt Charging and 333-Mile Range

The Range Rover Electric uses two permanent-magnet motors, each producing 260kW. Together, they deliver up to 542 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque, putting their output in V8 territory.

That translates into a 0-60 mph time of as little as 4.3 seconds. For overtaking, the SUV can accelerate from 50 to 75 mph in just 2.7 seconds.

Power comes from a usable 118.5kWh double-stacked battery containing 344 prismatic cells. The system runs on an 800-volt electrical architecture and supports rapid DC charging.

Range reaches up to 333 miles on the EPA cycle. On a suitable fast charger, the battery can go from 10% to 80% in about 22 minutes. At peak charging rates, 10 minutes can add roughly 125 miles of range.

Range Rover Keeps Its Off-Road Credentials

For Range Rover, the bigger challenge was proving that electrification would not compromise the SUV’s capability.

The company’s development philosophy was straightforward: “Range Rover first, Electric second.” As a result, the exterior remains close to the established design, with EV-specific changes largely limited to the grille, wheels, and underbody.

Underneath, however, the technology is substantially different. Integrated Traction Management can adjust motor speed within 50 milliseconds, while a Single Pedal mode is designed to help the SUV manage gradients and climb slopes of up to 45 degrees.

The Electric also retains a wading depth of up to 35 inches. Meanwhile, a lower centre of gravity and twin-chamber air suspension are intended to improve road handling without sacrificing the ride comfort associated with the Range Rover.

Five Trims and a New Luxury Interior

Range Rover says the Electric has completed more than 900,000 miles of virtual and physical testing, alongside more than 300 patent applications. Its development programme also introduces ThermAssist heat management, which the company says can add up to 25 miles of range and reduce heating energy consumption by 40% in extreme temperatures.

Martin Limpert, Managing Director of Range Rover, linked the move to the brand’s focus on refinement.

“Electric propulsion is perfectly suited to the exquisite refinement of Range Rover, elevating the sense of calm and secluded sanctuary for occupants,” he said, adding that the team pushed testing further than planned to make it “genuinely the most accomplished Range Rover ever.”

The lineup includes SE and Autobiography variants, as well as SV, SV Black, and SV Ultra models. Buyers can choose short- or long-wheelbase configurations, with US pricing starting at $138,000.

A limited First Edition adds a choice of Belgravia Green, Santorini Black, or Varesine Blue paint, paired with Light Cloud Ultrafabrics PU and Kvadrat textile upholstery.

For North American buyers, built-in NACS compatibility also provides access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.

Orders for the Range Rover Electric are now open through Range Rover retailers, marking the beginning of the brand’s first fully electric flagship SUV.
