UAE Energy Project Pipeline Reaches $210B across 136 Developments
The UAE has 136 energy projects under development with a combined estimated capital expenditure of around $210B, highlighting the scale of investment planned across the country’s energy sector.
Oil and gas projects account for the largest share of planned spending, with upstream developments representing almost 40 per cent of total estimated capital expenditure. Downstream projects account for 16 per cent, while midstream projects make up just under 12 per cent.
Renewable energy represents 11 per cent of projects under development, followed by hydrogen at 9 per cent and transmission and distribution at 8 per cent. Conventional power accounts for 7 per cent, while carbon capture and energy storage each represent 4 per cent.
The UAE is also expected to add around 17,980MW of renewable energy capacity through 14 projects scheduled to come online by 2030. A further nine conventional power projects are expected to deliver 12,947MW of new capacity.
However, not all projects currently in the pipeline have reached final investment decision, meaning their development and investment timelines could still change.
The data also points to growing activity across emerging energy technologies, including hydrogen, carbon capture and energy storage, alongside the UAE’s continued investment in conventional oil and gas infrastructure.
The scale of the pipeline reflects the UAE’s strategy of expanding energy production and infrastructure while increasing investment in lower-carbon technologies and renewable capacity.
