2027 BMW i3 50 xDrive Brings the 3 Series Into the Electric Era

BMW has officially entered a new electric chapter for its eighth-generation 3 Series with the debut of the 2027 BMW i3 50 xDrive. Built on the Neue Klasse platform, the all-electric sports sedan introduces BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive architecture with an 800V electrical system.

Production began in August 2026 at BMW’s Munich plant, while US deliveries are scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. Pricing starts at $61,500, excluding the $1,350 destination and handling charge.

Neue Klasse Design and Technology

The i3 50 xDrive adopts BMW’s reduced Neue Klasse design language while retaining the proportions of a traditional 2.5-box sports sedan. Its front features a forward-leaning sharknose, integrated kidney grille, horizontal LED headlights and driver-assistance sensors.

The electric sedan rides on a 114.1-inch wheelbase and measures 73.4 inches wide. Inside, BMW replaces the traditional instrument cluster with Panoramic iDrive, which projects key driving information across the lower windshield.

A 17.9-inch central display sits alongside a new multifunction steering wheel with integrated controls.

463 HP and Up to 468 Miles of Range

The i3 50 xDrive combines a 322-hp electrically excited synchronous motor at the rear with a 165-hp asynchronous induction motor at the front. Together, they produce 463 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque.

The dual-motor setup enables a 0–60 mph time of 4.5 seconds. A 112.2 kWh battery provides an estimated EPA range of 446 to 468 miles.

Meanwhile, 400 kW DC fast charging can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in 21 minutes. BMW also says the system can add up to 208 miles of range in 10 minutes and supports Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Home power capabilities.
