Bitcoin.com Integrates UAE-Regulated USDU Stablecoin Into Its Wallet
Bitcoin.com has partnered with Universal Digital Intl Limited to integrate USDU, a UAE-regulated stablecoin, into its digital wallet and broader product ecosystem.
The partnership will also support the development of educational content focused on regulated stablecoins. Moreover, the companies plan to expand the use of USDU across selected payment and digital-asset services, subject to applicable regulations and jurisdictional restrictions.
USDU expands access through Bitcoin.com Wallet
USDU is issued by Universal under the supervision of the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) in Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM).
The stablecoin is issued as a Fiat-Referenced Token and is also registered as a Foreign Payment Token under the Central Bank of the UAE’s Payment Token Services Regulation.
According to Universal, each USDU is backed on a one-to-one basis by liquid US dollar reserves held with regulated UAE banks. The reserves are subject to monthly independent attestations, while the stablecoin’s smart contract has undergone an independent audit.
As part of the partnership, Bitcoin.com will add USDU as a supported asset in its self-custodial wallet across web and mobile platforms. Consequently, eligible users will be able to hold, send and receive USDU through the wallet.
Swap and buy-and-sell functionality is expected to follow as support for third-party services becomes available. However, access to the services will depend on local regulatory requirements and jurisdictional restrictions.
Bitcoin.com will also accept USDU for selected services. Additionally, the company plans to work toward enabling USDU payments between users and merchants through its products, where permitted by applicable law.
Partnership adds focus on regulated stablecoins
The agreement also includes an education programme covering stablecoins and USDU. Bitcoin.com plans to distribute educational materials through its digital channels, including Learn-to-Earn content within its wallet.
Bitcoin.com CEO Corbin Fraser said regulation has become an important consideration for stablecoins and highlighted USDU’s UAE registration and monthly reserve attestations.
Universal Senior Executive Officer Juha Viitala said the partnership reflects the expanding role of regulated stablecoins and would make USDU available to a broader base of users through the Bitcoin.com Wallet.
The partnership comes as regulators and financial institutions across the UAE continue developing frameworks for digital assets and payment tokens. Therefore, integrating a regulated stablecoin into a widely used self-custodial wallet could provide another channel for users to access digital assets within an established regulatory framework.
However, the availability and permitted use of USDU will remain subject to applicable laws and the regulatory requirements of individual jurisdictions.
