McLaren Artura to Exit Lineup in 2028

The McLaren Artura is set to leave the brand’s lineup in 2028, ending the run of McLaren’s first V-6 hybrid supercar and current entry-level model.

The Artura was introduced as the successor to McLaren’s previous generation, but its launch was repeatedly delayed. When customer deliveries were finally due to begin in 2021, the global semiconductor shortage further disrupted the rollout.

The early production period was also marked by significant technical issues. By late 2022, McLaren had liquidated more than $120 million worth of cars from its heritage collection to help fund necessary fixes for the new platform.

The Artura’s difficult launch also affected its showroom reputation. According to a U.S. dealer, delays and widely reported technical problems discouraged prospective buyers. Dealers also argued that the car lacked the visual and performance impact needed to stand out in the competitive junior supercar segment.

Rather than being viewed as a major departure, the Artura was described as resembling a redesigned model with a V-6 hybrid powertrain replacing McLaren’s more aggressive V-8 setup.

McLaren plans to replace the Artura with a new supercar, reportedly designated P34. The upcoming model is expected to start at around $313,000, raising the brand’s entry price by approximately $60,000.

The transition will therefore mark more than the end of Artura. It will also reshape McLaren’s entry point as the brand moves toward its next generation of supercars.
