Porsche 550 Spyder J Debuts as an Electric Collector Replica

Porsche and British company Hedley Studios have unveiled the Porsche 550 Spyder J, an 80-percent-scale, all-electric replica of the legendary sports car. Created to celebrate 75 years of Porsche Motorsport, the limited-edition model combines historic design with modern electric technology.

The original 1953 Porsche 550 Spyder secured a class victory and third-place overall finish at the 1954 Carrera Panamericana. That achievement helped inspire Porsche’s long-running “Carrera” name.

Handcrafted With Historic Accuracy

Developed using original drawings and scans from the Porsche Corporate Archives, the replica is handcrafted at Hedley Studios in Bicester, UK.

The miniature vehicle measures approximately 2.9 metres long, 1.2 metres wide and 0.8 metres tall. It features more than 1,300 components, a rigid steel space-frame chassis and a lightweight carbon-fibre body.

Despite its smaller dimensions, the Porsche 550 Spyder J can accommodate two people.

Electric Power and Multiple Drive Modes

Instead of the original Type 547 Fuhrmann four-cylinder boxer engine, the replica uses a 48-volt electric powertrain.

The standard version produces 8 kW, or 11 hp, and reaches a top speed of 40 mph. Buyers can choose an optional RS Package with either 15 kW, or 22 hp, or 16 kW, raising the top speed to as much as 50 mph.

The vehicle includes four drive modes: Novice, Comfort, Sport and Race. However, it is not road-legal.

Limited to 250 Units

Production is limited to 250 examples worldwide. Designed as both a drivable tribute and a customizable collector’s piece, the Porsche 550 Spyder J offers modern and heritage paint colors alongside motorsport-inspired liveries.
