UAE Pledges Additional €15bn Investment in Greece

The UAE has announced plans to invest an additional €15bn ($16.8bn) in Greece, significantly expanding the countries’ joint investment initiative as both sides work to strengthen their economic and strategic partnership.

The announcement came during the official visit of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to Greece.

The proposed investment aims to deepen long-term economic ties and unlock opportunities across sectors that both countries have identified as strategic priorities for development.

The latest commitment builds on a joint investment initiative launched in May 2022, valued at €4bn ($4.5bn). The programme established a framework for developing and executing strategic investments, including completed deals in the energy and healthcare sectors.

The additional funding represents a major expansion of the bilateral investment partnership, with both countries looking to build on existing projects and explore new avenues for collaboration.

The UAE has emphasised Greece’s economic potential, investment environment and strategic geographical position, which connects European markets with regional and international trade networks.

The expanded partnership is expected to strengthen collaboration between investment institutions and businesses in both countries, facilitating strategic project development and knowledge sharing.

The initiative will also aim to promote innovation and attract investment into sectors that support sustainable economic growth.

The announcement underscores the UAE’s commitment to establishing long-term international investment partnerships and strengthening its economic relationship with Greece.

However, the statement did not specify when the additional €15bn would be deployed, identify the institutions responsible for managing the investments or outline how the funding would be allocated across sectors.
